The future of East Africa's built environment is being forged in Nairobi at the Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS) Conference & Green Expo 2025, running from October 2nd to 3rd at the Emara Ole Sereni. The two-day flagship event is a critical follow-up to the Africa Climate Summit, strategically positioning Kenya as a regional hub for green, investable urban development encompassing real estate, infrastructure, heritage, and tourism.
Bringing together over 300 leaders from government, finance, and the built environment, the conference agenda is packed with 16 sessions and features 48 speakers, including globally recognized experts like Dr. Joseph Mwiti Marangu, a leader in low-carbon cement technology. The central theme, "Kenya's Climate-Resilient Innovation: A Gateway for Investment," underscores the shift from mere sustainability compliance to creating viable economic opportunities.
A major focus of the exhibition is the Green Materials, Manufacturers & Circularity Pavilion, which highlights solutions for reducing embodied carbon and eliminating construction waste. This pavilion is a showcase for domestic innovation, featuring sustainable alternatives like compressed stabilised earth blocks (CSEBs), bamboo-based products, and recycled plastic bricks for affordable housing. This drive for local content is supported by the KGBS's Jenga Green Library, an online directory helping developers connect with suppliers of certified eco-friendly products and services.
The involvement of high-profile partners such as KCB Bank, MAPEI, the National Construction Authority, and the Climate Smart Forest Economy Program is a testament to the cross-sector commitment required to scale these green solutions. By focusing on investable, low-carbon, and resource-efficient materials and technologies, the KGBS Expo is facilitating the deals and policy changes needed to achieve a healthy, resilient, and economically progressive built environment for all Kenyans. The event culminates with the "Taste of Lamu" Awards Gala, recognizing outstanding achievements in sustainable development and cultural heritage preservation.
