The National Police Service has apprehended several suspects and recovered a cache of mobile phones and weapons following recent violent attacks in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Siaya counties.

The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the arrest of several suspects linked to a series of violent incidents in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Siaya. The security operations follow a January 28 attack in the Tononoka area of Mombasa, where a security guard was assaulted by a group of young men. According to police reports, two suspects are currently in custody while a search continues for a third individual still at large. Officers recovered a machete and knives during the operation, and the suspects have already been presented in court.

In a separate operation in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, detectives arrested three suspects in connection with an attack on a shop owner. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, led to the recovery of 49 mobile phones, various electronic devices, and gas cylinders. Police also seized crude weapons during the arrests. The suspects are reportedly cooperating with investigators as they face charges related to the robbery and assault.

Security agencies are also focusing on Siaya County, where a specialized team of detectives has been investigating recent criminal activity in Bondo. While the NPS did not release full details regarding the nature of the specific cases in Siaya, officials noted that a critical breakthrough has been made. The breakthrough follows a period of heightened concern in the region after reports of abductions and attacks involving the locals and business owners.

The police response comes amid increased public anxiety caused by CCTV footage circulating on social media showing daylight robberies and gang activity. In the Coast region, local commanders have issued warnings to criminal groups, specifically those utilizing machetes to terrorize residents. Regional security heads have directed officers to use justifiable force when confronted by armed suspects to protect lives and property.

The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, urging the public to continue sharing information through emergency toll-free numbers. Police spokesperson Michael Nyaga stated that the service is accelerating its response to ensure the safety of citizens across the affected counties. Further updates on the Bondo investigation and the pursuit of the remaining Tononoka suspect are expected as court proceedings and field operations continue.
