LIMURU, KENYA – Motorists using the Rironi/Kamandura Interchange in Limuru are being advised to seek alternative routes as the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary road closure for major reconstruction works. The closure, which begins on Friday, August 22, 2025, and is expected to last for over two months until Friday, October 31, 2025, is part of a larger project to upgrade the Nairobi–Nakuru–Mai Mahiu highway corridor.
In a public notice, KeNHA's Acting Director General, Luka Kimeli, stated that the works will involve the complete reconstruction of the interchange, including slip roads, loops, and approach roads. The aim is to improve traffic flow and enhance safety at the busy junction that connects Waiyaki Way (A8), Limuru Road, and Mai Mahiu Road (A8 South).
To mitigate the impact of the closure, KeNHA has provided a detailed traffic management plan. Motorists from Waiyaki Way (A8) heading towards Mai Mahiu (A8 South) are advised to use the old Naivasha Road near Rubis Tilisi. For traffic coming from Mai Mahiu (A8 South) and heading to Nairobi, the designated diversion is at Mutarakwa Junction, where drivers should turn onto Limuru Road and rejoin Waiyaki Way at the Kwa Mbira flyover.
Additionally, motorists originating from Ruaka, Ndenderu, or Kabuku should proceed to Limuru Town and join the A8 at the Kwa Mbira flyover. KeNHA has confirmed that through traffic along the A8 highway to and from Kamandura, Kimende, and Naivasha will not be affected by the closure.
The authority has appealed to all road users to exercise patience, follow road signs, and cooperate with traffic police and marshals on site. The reconstruction of the Rironi/Kamandura Interchange is a critical step in a broader government initiative to improve infrastructure and is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and enhance road safety for commuters, long-distance travelers, and cargo transporters in the region.
