The Kenya National Highways Authority has begun extensive road improvement works along the corridor from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to ABC Place in Westlands. The project, which formally commenced on January 15, focuses on capacity enhancement, landscaping, and beautification to improve safety and ease congestion on this heavily used route.
KeNHA issued a warning to road users about the disruptions that will follow the start of construction. The authority had earlier directed owners of temporary structures, including billboards and tree nursery beds, along the stretch to remove them within two weeks period, or face removal without further notice. This clearance was necessary to allow the works to proceed without obstruction.
Images released by KeNHA show excavation and other site activities already underway, with engineers and contractors present. The agency has appealed for cooperation from motorists, asking them to observe signage, maintain low speeds in work zones, and exercise caution. The route, designated as A8/B10, serves as a key artery connecting the airport area through Mlolongo and into Nairobi's western suburbs, including Waiyaki Way sections leading to Westlands.
Ongoing works are expected to continue for an unspecified period, though KeNHA regrets any inconvenience and emphasises that the upgrades aim to deliver better infrastructure for daily commuters and commercial traffic. Therefore, motorists are advised to plan journeys accordingly and follow any temporary diversions or instructions from traffic marshals and police deployed at affected points.
