New details on the architectural and functional design of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kangβo ka Jaramogi in Bondo have emerged. The structure will adopt a pentagonal form, deliberately different from the hexagonal shape of the neighbouring Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum built in 1995.
The pentagonal design symbolises strength, unity and collective purpose. The number five is woven into the layout, including five steps leading down to the grave. A four-metre buffer space surrounds the burial area to allow comfortable movement for mourners and visitors.

The interior will include mini exhibition spaces along the walls. A QR code system will provide digital access to documentation of Raila Odingaβs life and legacy. The facility will also offer accommodation for visiting researchers and a dedicated conference space with an amphitheatre.
These spaces are intended to support academic discussions, cultural events, exhibitions and public education programmes. The design targets capacity for more than 1,000 weekly visitors while ensuring smooth accessibility and flow.
The mausoleum will sit at the centre of a circular pathway. A walkway will connect it to the existing Jaramogi Mausoleum, with the two structures roughly eight metres apart. The overall layout mirrors a traditional Luo homestead, where visitors first pay respects at Jaramogiβs site before proceeding to Railaβs.
Landscaping will surround both mausoleums. New signage and replicated gate façades will guide visitors. Some existing structures on the site will be demolished to create space for the new development.
The Kenya Defence Forces is leading the project. Site surveying has been completed, and construction is expected to finish within two months. The timeline reflects a focused push to deliver the memorial.
The combination of symbolic geometry, practical visitor amenities and cultural references aims to create a respectful and functional national landmark. Execution will depend on coordination between heritage, engineering and construction teams.
Further clarity on material specifications and structural details is anticipated as works progress. The project continues to draw attention as one of the most closely watched memorial developments in recent years.
May Enigma's soul continue resting in peace.
