Three people died on the spot following a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a public service vehicle near Mutituni market along the busy Machakos-Kangundo road in Machakos County.
The victims were riding on a motorcycle alongside two other passengers toward Machakos town when the rider reportedly attempted to overtake an unidentified vehicle.
During the maneuver, the motorcycle rammed into an oncoming matatu traveling toward Kangundo.
Emergency service responders arrived shortly after the impact to transport the survivors to a medical facility.
Those who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Machakos Level Five Hospital for urgent treatment, while police officers secured the crash site to clear traffic along the regional corridor.
The bodies of the three deceased individuals were transferred to the Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary for identification and post-mortem procedures, as local police launched investigations into the crash.
Transportation authorities continue to call for heightened vigilance, citing human error and dangerous overtaking maneuvers as persistent factors in rural highway collisions across the region.
