KeNHA Announces Month Long Partial Closure of Mombasa Road for Drainage Works

The Kenya National Highways Authority has announced a temporary partial closure of Mombasa Road. The works target the section at Highway Educational Complex near Bellevue and will run for one month.

The closure affects both carriageways starting Monday August 10 until Monday September 14. Traffic will use the remaining two open lanes interchangeably to minimise disruptions.

KeNHA said the closure is necessary for construction of a box culvert. This drainage structure will improve water flow and road durability particularly during heavy rains.

Motorists have been advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan. Police officers and traffic marshals will be on site to guide vehicles and ensure safety.

The authority urged drivers to exercise caution and cooperate with personnel at the site. Normal operations will resume once the culvert works are completed.

Mombasa Road is a critical artery linking Nairobi to the coast and industrial areas. Partial closures for maintenance are common as KeNHA upgrades drainage and pavement along the busy highway.

Similar works were recently carried out on Emali Isineti Road. That closure allowed installation of another drainage structure and used a temporary diversion route.

Road infrastructure maintenance remains a priority for KeNHA. Culvert projects prevent flooding and extend the lifespan of major highways. They form part of routine upgrades to handle increased traffic volumes.

Motorists using the affected section during the closure period should plan alternative routes where possible. Heavy trucks and buses may face longer travel times.
