The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) has issued a call for abstracts ahead of its 2026 Annual Convention, inviting contributions from built environment professionals, researchers, policymakers, academics and innovators across the region.
The convention runs from September 17 to 19, 2026, at Diamond Leisure Beach and Golf Resort. The theme is Shifting the Built Environment from Fragility to Resilience, a framing that mirrors the growing continental conversation around climate adaptation, urban governance and the long-term performance of Kenya's built infrastructure.
Submissions are invited under four sub-themes. Climate Action and Sustainability covers work addressing environmental performance, carbon reduction and ecological resilience in the built environment. Policy, Urban Governance and Regulatory Reform invites contributions examining how legislation, planning frameworks and regulatory systems are shaping or hindering Kenya's built environment. People, Place and Community Resilience focuses on the human dimensions of design, including inclusivity, informal settlements and community-centred approaches to construction and planning. Innovation, Technology and the Future of Construction covers emerging tools, materials, methods and digital systems reshaping how buildings and infrastructure are delivered.
The abstract submission deadline is Saturday, May 30, 2026. That is nine days away.
The AAK Annual Convention is one of the most significant gatherings of built environment professionals in East Africa, bringing together architects, quantity surveyors, engineers, planners, developers and government representatives under one programme. For practitioners and researchers with work that speaks to any of the four sub-themes, the convention represents a direct platform to contribute to the profession's national conversation at a moment when that conversation is unusually consequential.
Submission details are available through the AAK directly.
