Construction continues at the Kawaida ESP Market site in Kiambaa Sub-County, Kiambu County. The project forms part of the wider Economic Stimulus Programme covering 30 markets across the county.
Aerial images of the site show a multi-bay concrete block structure with walls largely raised. Steel roof framing is being installed across the top of the building, with scaffolding still in place along the elevations.
Open bays and incomplete sections remain visible. Roofing sheets have not yet been fixed and finishing works are yet to begin. Construction materials and equipment are present on the ground around the structure.
The market is planned to provide organised trading spaces for hundreds of traders once complete. Planned amenities include cold storage facilities, lactation rooms, clean ablution blocks, an ICT hub and social halls.
Several other markets in the Kiambu ESP programme have already been completed and are operational. Others remain at different stages of construction.
Works at Kawaida have provided employment for local workers during the building phase. The site sits within a residential and commercial area of the sub-county.
The current stage of the project is structural, with the focus on completing the main frame and roof structure before internal fittings and external finishes.
