Construction of Mumbi Stadium in Township Ward, Kiharu Constituency, is progressing under the national government. The facility is set to become Murang’a County’s first international-standard sports venue.
The stadium will have a capacity of 10,000 seats. It is named Mumbi in reference to the county’s heritage as the mythical cradle of the community.

President William Ruto laid the foundation stone in April 2026. Officials say construction remains on course for completion within a year, with opening expected in early 2027.
The design includes a standard football pitch and an eight-lane tartan athletics track. Modern spectator stands, changing rooms, public amenities and a VIP pavilion form part of the plans.
Auxiliary courts for volleyball, basketball, netball and handball will also be provided. The facility is intended as a centre for talent development and youth engagement.
Construction is generating jobs for local workers. It is also increasing demand for businesses, suppliers and service providers in Murang’a Town.
The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is supporting the project. Its role includes coordinating security planning around the construction site and safeguarding public infrastructure.
The department is also working to strengthen collaboration between national and county agencies involved in the works.
The stadium forms part of wider efforts to expand sports infrastructure and provide structured opportunities for young people in the county.
