The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) has scheduled an intensive training program focused on green buildings and sustainable infrastructure, as the local construction industry faces increasing pressure to adopt climate-resilient practices.
The five-day session, which runs from 18th to 22nd May 2026, is designed to equip engineering professionals with practical, future-focused skills necessary to navigate the shifting demands of the built environment.

According to the organizers, the curriculum includes a one-day LEED Certification Preparation Course. This specific component aims to provide participants with the knowledge required to pursue LEED certification and align their local projects with globally recognized green building standards.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world, providing a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings.
The training will be hosted at the Lake Naivasha Resort, a venue that has become a frequent hub for technical workshops due to its proximity to major infrastructure projects in the Rift Valley.
Participants who complete the full duration of the program are eligible to earn 18 Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points. These points are a critical requirement for engineers seeking to maintain their practicing licenses with the Engineers Board of Kenya.
The IEK has established a tiered pricing structure for the event. Members of the institution will pay Ksh 70,000, while non-members are charged Ksh 75,000. These fees are exclusive of accommodation costs.
This training comes at a time when the Kenyan government, under President Ruto, has been vocal about the need for sustainable urban development and the reduction of carbon footprints in the construction sector.
As the built environment evolves, the IEK emphasizes that engineering professionals must be ready to be part of the change by mastering sustainability metrics and LEED-compliant design.
Registration is currently being conducted through the institution's digital platforms, with organizers providing a direct portal for applicants to secure their spots ahead of the May deadline.
For further information, the IEK has directed interested parties to contact their secretariat through their official phone lines or via email at iek@iekenya.org.
