The Kenya Airports Authority has released a new set of tenders for infrastructure works at multiple airports across the country.
One of the prominent projects involves the proposed extension of the Musa Gate access road at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The tender seeks contractors to improve and extend road infrastructure serving the busy facility.
JKIA has faced growing pressure from rising passenger and cargo volumes in recent years. The access road works form Phase 2 of efforts to ease internal traffic flow within the airport complex.
The tenders cover a range of developments. At Eldoret International Airport, KAA is seeking a developer for a pack house and has re-tendered for upgrades to the Private Automatic Branch Exchange communication system.
In Kisumu, the authority advertised provision of Jet A1 fuel services. Mandera Airstrip will receive an eco-friendly diesel generator installation, while Boma Airstrip is set for a fuel service station and retail facilities.
Other works include left luggage services at Moi International Airport in Mombasa. The package also touches on telecommunications, cargo handling and power systems at various sites.
These projects come as the government advances larger expansion plans for JKIA under a public-private partnership arrangement. Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir had earlier indicated that major airport upgrades would commence in June 2026.
The JKIA master plan runs to 2045 and is structured in phases to increase capacity and modernise passenger facilities. The current access road tender aligns with those longer-term goals.
Bidders now have the opportunity to compete for civil works involving road construction, paving, drainage and associated infrastructure at JKIA. Similar opportunities exist for specialised installations at the smaller airstrips and airports.
The tenders reflect ongoing investment in Kenya's aviation infrastructure to support tourism, trade and regional connectivity. Improved access roads and support facilities are expected to reduce congestion and enhance operational efficiency at the airports.
KAA has positioned the works as part of systematic upgrades across its network. From major hubs like JKIA and Mombasa to regional facilities in Eldoret, Kisumu and Mandera, the focus remains on reliability and capacity building.
Contractors with experience in airport projects, road works and specialised installations are likely to show interest. The authority typically requires adherence to strict aviation safety and quality standards during execution.
These tenders arrive at a time when air travel demand continues to recover and grow. Enhanced ground infrastructure will play a key role in accommodating larger aircraft movements and higher passenger throughput.
