Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Dr Patrick Mariru has conducted a site visit to the ongoing Langata Garrison Housing Programme. The project is constructing 1470 housing units for Kenya Defence Forces personnel.
This development forms part of phase one of a bigger initiative. The Ministry of Defence is delivering 10095 housing units across several garrisons and military camps.
The units include 4100 family houses and 5995 single living quarters for service members. The projects are spread across Langata Embakasi Kahawa Garrisons Moi Air Base and Roysambu Military Camp.
These efforts complement another programme under public private partnership. A total of 3069 housing units are being delivered in Roysambu Kwa Mbambuzi Lanet Gilgil and Mariakani Barracks.
The 500 unit Roysambu project was completed and handed over to beneficiaries in February this year. The remaining four projects are technically complete.
Dr Mariru was joined by Kahawa Garrison Commander Brigadier Makonani Balata and Chief of Infrastructure at Defence Headquarters Brigadier Said Mwacharo during the site visit.
The housing programme aims to improve living conditions for Kenya Defence Forces personnel and their families. Good housing is important for morale and operational readiness.
The government is committed to providing decent accommodation for security forces. This is part of broader efforts to modernise military infrastructure across the country.
The projects are progressing well and are expected to be completed according to schedule. They will provide much needed housing for service members.
This initiative shows the government's focus on the welfare of Kenya Defence Forces. Better housing contributes to a motivated and effective military.
