Construction of the training annex at Talanta Sports City in Nairobi is progressing steadily. The facility is being developed as part of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The annex is expected to serve as a key training base for teams participating in the tournament. It will complement the main Raila Odinga International Stadium, also known as Talanta Sports Stadium.
Progress on the main pitch has reached an advanced stage. The grass on the playing surface has earned praise and criticism, but looks great.

The project forms part of Kenyaβs broader infrastructure push ahead of co-hosting AFCON 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania. Several venues across the country are undergoing upgrades or new construction. The Talanta project is to be completed by end of August.
Officials have highlighted the quality of the work at the annex. It is described as one of the best such facilities in East Africa outside the main stadium itself.
The annex will include modern training pitches, support buildings and amenities suitable for professional football teams. These features are designed to meet international standards required for the tournament.
Work on the facility has reached an advanced stage with structures and field preparation.
The development comes as Kenya aims to showcase improved sports infrastructure. The country has faced criticism in the past over the condition of some venues.
AFCON 2027 will be the first time Kenya co-hosts the tournament. The event is expected to draw significant attention to the regionβs sporting capabilities and infrastructure.
The annex at Talanta is part of a wider network of training sites being prepared. Other locations in Nairobi and across the country are also receiving attention.
Construction teams continue to work on finishing touches. The facility is expected to be ready in time for the tournamentβs build-up activities.
The project reflects ongoing investment in sports facilities that can serve both national teams and local clubs in the long term.
