Kenya Railways has announced that the upcoming Changamwe East station will serve residents of Changamwe and neighbouring areas.
Once operational, passengers will be able to travel to and from Mombasaβs central business district using the Commuter Link train. Those connecting to or from Nairobi will use the Link train to reach Mombasa Terminus.
The station forms part of the expanding Mombasa commuter rail network. It is intended to improve access for communities living near the existing railway corridor in Changamwe.
Photographs released by Kenya Railways showed the station site and related infrastructure. The facility is designed to integrate with both local and long-distance services.
Commuter rail services in Mombasa have been developed to ease road congestion and provide an alternative mode of transport within the coastal city. The addition of Changamwe East extends coverage to a densely populated residential and industrial zone.
Residents will gain a direct rail option for daily travel into the city centre. The connection to Mombasa Terminus will also simplify transfers for passengers using the Standard Gauge Railway or other long-distance trains.
No specific opening date was provided in the latest update. Construction and commissioning details remain under the railway operatorβs programme.
The station is expected to support local economic activity by improving mobility for workers and traders. Reliable rail access can reduce dependence on road transport in an area that experiences significant traffic volumes.
Kenya Railways continues to develop additional stops and services along the Mombasa commuter corridor. Changamwe East is presented as a practical addition that brings the network closer to residential neighbourhoods.
Integration with the existing Link train timetable will determine how effectively the new station serves both local and connecting passengers. Further operational information is expected as the facility nears readiness.
