Government Vehicles to Get Tracking Systems Under New Accountability Reforms

The government has announced that all official vehicles will be fitted with tracking systems as part of a new accountability framework designed to curb misuse of public assets and improve fleet management across ministries, departments and agencies.

The reforms were agreed during a meeting chaired by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. The session brought together representatives from the Executive, Parliament, the Judiciary and national security agencies to review operational protocols governing the use of government vehicles.

According to the government, the tracking technology will enable real-time monitoring of official vehicles, helping authorities verify vehicle movements, improve fleet utilisation and reduce cases of unauthorised use.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen compliance with existing government transport regulations by providing accurate records of vehicle locations, journeys and operational patterns.

Officials said the reforms form part of wider efforts to improve accountability in the management of public resources while enhancing efficiency in government operations.

The review meeting also examined existing policies governing the allocation, operation and maintenance of government vehicles, with stakeholders considering additional measures to ensure public assets are used strictly for official duties.

The planned rollout of the tracking systems is expected to complement other oversight mechanisms aimed at improving transparency and reducing operational costs associated with the government's vehicle fleet.
