KUCCPS has opened applications for the 2026/2027 university and TVET placement cycle. The window runs from April 7 to May 6, 2026, with eligible candidates directed to apply at students.kuccps.ac.ke.
Kenya's university placement body has launched the 2026/2027 application cycle, giving 2025 KCSE candidates until May 6 to submit their course preferences including engineering and construction programmes.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service opened its placement portal for the 2026/2027 academic year on Tuesday, April 7, following a meeting between Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba and KUCCPS officials led by CEO Agnes Wahome.

Ogamba called on 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates to apply for their preferred courses through the official portal at students.kuccps.ac.ke, noting that the application window would remain open for four weeks, closing on May 6, 2026.

Among the courses available are degree programmes in civil engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, architecture, and related built environment disciplines, fields that continue to attract strong competition given Kenya's sustained infrastructure activity and the demand for technically trained graduates in both public and private sector projects. TVET programmes in technical and vocational trades, including construction-related certificates and diplomas, are also open for application within the same window.

Students eligible to apply are those who scored a minimum grade of C+ in the 2025 KCSE examinations. Engineering and construction-related programmes typically carry higher cut-off points due to demand, meaning candidates angling for these courses need to apply strategically, prioritising institutions where historical cut-off points fall at or below their computed cluster weight.

The placement body has uploaded all degree programmes against the 2024 cut-off points to guide applicants through the selection process. Courses are organised into 20 distinct clusters, with competitiveness varying based on demand, available slots, and the capacity declared by each institution.

For engineering and STEM pathways specifically, cluster weights are calculated from performance in sciences and mathematics, subjects that carry significant influence over a candidate's eligibility for technical degree programmes. A strong performance in physics, chemistry, and mathematics typically opens the widest range of engineering options, while candidates with biology-heavy combinations tend to be steered toward health sciences rather than built environment courses.

The portal lists 42 public universities and the Open University of Kenya as institutions eligible for both government scholarships and Higher Education Loans Board funding. An additional 30 private universities have been listed as eligible for HELB loans only, meaning students admitted to those institutions will not qualify for government scholarships. For candidates targeting engineering programmes, public universities with established engineering faculties such as the University of Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and Moi University have historically drawn the highest competition and cut-off points in technical clusters.

The standard advice from KUCCPS holds for this cycle. Applicants should list the same programme across multiple institutions in order of preference, starting with the most competitive. Applying broadly within a cluster improves the likelihood of securing placement even if the first-choice institution proves out of reach on cut-off points alone.

Students facing difficulties navigating the application process can visit any of the 59 Huduma Centres nationwide, where KUCCPS-trained Universal Service Agents are on hand to assist. A placement application fee of Ksh 1,500 is payable through eCitizen upon submission.

The application period runs from April 7 to May 6, 2026.
