Tesla and SpaceX Expand Massive Factory Build-Out Across Texas

Tesla and SpaceX are advancing a large-scale construction programme across Texas that includes factories for solar cells, humanoid robots, satellites and battery storage.

Projects listed include the Terafab in Grimes County, a Gigasat factory in Bastrop currently under construction, an Optimus factory at Giga Texas also under construction, and an advanced technology fab at the same site.

A major solar cell plant known as Tesla Project Crystal Sun is planned for Fort Bend County, with construction expected to start in late 2026. An expanded Starlink terminal production facility is under way in Bastrop. Further expansion is planned at Starbase.

Tesla’s Megafactory 3 in Brookshire has recently begun production. A lithium refinery plant in Corpus Christi has also been added to the list of active or planned facilities.

The scale of the investment covers multiple counties and spans vehicle components, energy storage, satellite hardware and advanced manufacturing. Several of the sites are already in the construction phase while others have firm start dates.

Giga Texas continues to serve as a central hub. New buildings for Optimus production and advanced technology work are rising alongside existing vehicle and battery operations.

In Bastrop the dual focus on Gigasat and expanded Starlink terminal manufacturing points to growing demand for satellite hardware. Construction activity on these sites is already visible.

The Fort Bend solar cell plant represents a significant addition to Tesla’s energy manufacturing footprint. Its planned late-2026 start places it among the more distant projects on the current list.

Brookshire’s Megafactory 3 has moved from construction into early production. The site expands Tesla’s capacity for energy storage systems.

Corpus Christi’s lithium refinery supports the battery supply chain. Its inclusion completes a vertical span from raw material processing through to finished cells and packs.

Taken together the projects illustrate a sustained industrial build-out rather than isolated factories. Multiple sites are progressing in parallel across the state.

Local construction activity includes large industrial buildings, specialised clean-room or high-bay facilities, and supporting infrastructure such as power and logistics connections.

The timeline stretches from facilities already producing to those still in early planning. This staggered approach allows continuous expansion of manufacturing capacity.

Observers tracking the companies note that the Texas concentration of projects is unusual in its breadth. Few other regions currently host simultaneous construction of this range of Tesla and SpaceX facilities.
