Talks cover progress on Londiani and Baringo referral hospitals plus priority road and water projects under the Kenya-China partnership.

Principal Secretary for the National Treasury Dr Chris Kiptoo on Wednesday hosted the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kenya, H.E. Guo Haiyan, at the National Treasury.

The meeting reviewed progress under the Kenya-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Opportunities to deepen economic cooperation were also explored.

Kiptoo expressed appreciation for the Chinese Government’s continued support for the upgrading of Londiani and Baringo Referral Hospitals. Priority road and water infrastructure projects critical to Kenya’s development also featured.

The two sides discussed expanding Chinese investment in manufacturing, agriculture and agro-processing, ICT, renewable energy and Special Economic Zones. Greater market opportunities for Kenyan exports to China formed part of the agenda.

The Principal Secretary said Kenya will continue to pursue these areas of cooperation. The discussions built on existing engagement between the two countries.

Photographs from the meeting showed the officials in discussion at the Treasury offices. No specific new funding figures or project timelines were released during the engagement.

Support for the hospital upgrades and infrastructure projects was highlighted as ongoing. The partnership framework provided the basis for the review.

Kiptoo underscored the value of the relationship in advancing key development priorities. The Chinese Ambassador’s visit allowed direct exchange on current progress.

Areas identified for further investment align with Kenya’s broader economic goals. Market access for exports was raised as a complementary objective.

The meeting concluded with a restatement of commitment to the comprehensive strategic partnership. Both sides indicated interest in continued dialogue.

Hospital and infrastructure support remains a visible component of the cooperation. The Treasury continues to track implementation of the assisted projects.

No additional announcements on individual road or water schemes were made. The focus stayed on the overall partnership and priority sectors.

Officials present used the occasion to assess the status of ongoing Chinese-supported work. The discussion remained centred on mutual economic interests.

Further engagements are expected as the partnership advances. The Principal Secretary reaffirmed Kenya’s openness to expanded investment in the listed sectors.
