National Museums Invites Bids for KSh30 Million Raila Odinga Mausoleum in Siaya

The National Museums of Kenya issued a tender notice on Tuesday inviting qualified contractors to bid for construction of the proposed Raila Odinga Mausoleum. The KSh30 million project also covers renovation works at the nearby Jaramogi Mausoleum in Bondo Sub-County, Siaya County.

This marks the start of the formal procurement process. The notice targets eligible, reputable and qualified contractors. Documents are available at the National Museums of Kenya headquarters in Nairobi. They can also be downloaded free from the institution's website.

Bids must reach the authority by June 25, 2026. After that date, tenders will be opened and evaluated under standard procedures. The project follows government commitments made after Raila Odinga's death last year.

The mausoleum design centres on a bold circular structure. This element forms the symbolic heart of the memorial precinct. Radiating pathways and access roads create a continuous flow through the site.

Additional facilities include a research centre, library, digital archives and an amphitheatre. Green spaces and open grounds feature in the overall layout. Architectural enhancements will integrate the new structure with the existing commemorative landscape at Kang'o ka Jaramogi.

The site already holds the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum. Kenya's first Vice President rests there. Raila Odinga was buried next to his father following a private ceremony.

The mausoleum will preserve and promote the late former Prime Minister's historical legacy. It commemorates his role in the struggle against one-party rule. His leadership in delivering the 2010 Constitution receives recognition in the project rationale.

Peace initiatives and dedication to public service also feature. The National Museums of Kenya manages the initiative under the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. Construction is expected to commence once the contractor receives the award.
