The Lumumba Estate redevelopment forms part of the Lumumba Affordable Housing Project. It is located in Kisumu City. The estate was once historic and well-known. It is now being transformed into modern high-rise housing.
The development includes fifteen modern residential blocks. Each block rises seventeen floors high. Upon completion, it will deliver 2,348 housing units. These cover studio to three-bedroom categories.

Units span social, affordable and market-rate segments. This mix aims to create an integrated, inclusive community. The project addresses growing urban needs in Kisumu. The city has gained city status and continues expanding.
Construction has registered tremendous progress. The project is now entering final implementation phases. This follows earlier structural work on the blocks.

Current activities focus on detailed finishing tasks. Snagging is underway to correct minor cosmetic defects. This ensures buildings meet quality standards before handover.
Comprehensive testing covers water, electrical and drainage systems. It confirms they function safely and reliably. Final civil finishing works are also progressing.
These works include asphalt paving for roads and pathways. Street lighting installation is part of the scope. Landscaping around the estate is being completed.
County and national inspections are scheduled next. They will lead to certification and occupation permits. These permits allow residents to occupy the units.

The State Department for Housing and Urban Development (SDHUD) drove the decision to transform the estate. It aims to replace the ageing estate with modern housing. Demand for decent, sustainable homes has become urgent.
In collaboration with stakeholders, the State Department for Internal Security supports the project. Support includes security coordination and infrastructure protection. This maintains a stable environment for works.
After the current finishing, the estate will move to full handover. This includes final utility connections and community area setup. The high-rise blocks represent a shift to vertical urban living.
Asphalt paving will provide smooth, durable road surfaces. Street lighting will enhance nighttime safety. Landscaping will add green spaces for residents.
The redevelopment preserves the nostalgic value of the original estate. At the same time, it introduces contemporary standards. Over two thousand units will house a broad range of people.
The project shows coordinated government efforts in housing. Steady progress in the final phases brings modern living closer. Further works will complete tests and secure certifications.
This area of Kisumu will change with property value increasing as the Lumumba Estate is right next to Makasembo Estate and the Anderson Park Estate. Kisumu to the world?
