Ethiopia capital city, Addis Ababa, faces a total urban shift over the next five years, according to South African political and urban analyst Nakedi Mbabama. Speaking during an interview with media outlet Sputnik Africa (SA), Mbabama characterized the ongoing physical changes across the metropolitan area as remarkable.

The analyst pointed out that African nations possess sufficient internal resources to achieve comparable infrastructural changes. He noted that the ongoing civil works and urban updates in the Ethiopian capital reflect a wider potential for continental development, provided domestic capacity is mobilized effectively.

Addis Ababa has been undergoing large-scale civil works, including major corridor development projects aimed at expanding pedestrian walkways, improving road networks, and modernizing public spaces. These projects have significantly altered the structural landscape of the city, which serves as the headquarters for the African Union (AU).

Urban planners in East Africa continue to monitor the scale of public investment in Ethiopian infrastructure. The capital city overhaul includes multi-modal transport upgrades and extensive civic real estate redevelopment.

Mbabama emphasized that the ongoing momentum in the city could serve as a practical blueprint for other African capitals seeking rapid urban modernization. He indicated that managing local assets properly remains key to replicating such rapid urban growth across the region.

City authorities in Ethiopia have maintained an aggressive timeline for these civic projects, moving forward with structural works designed to expand commercial throughput and enhance municipal services. The ongoing investments continue to draw attention from international observers and regional infrastructure experts.
