The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has declared a temporary 42-day closure of a section of the Bomas-Kiserian (B19) Road, specifically between the Brookhouse/Galleria area and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa junction, starting on October 20, 2025, and ending on December 1, 2025. The closure is necessary for the construction of two box culverts.

Nairobi's road network faces 42 days of major infrastructure upgrades as the Kenya National Highways Authority, widely known as KeNHA, issued a crucial public advisory regarding two significant road closures set to begin imminently. This essential work will cause notable disruptions for motorists using key parts of the national trunk road network in the greater Nairobi area. The primary and most immediate focus is the temporary closure of a section of the Bomas to Kiserian Road, which is also officially designated as the B19. This necessary traffic redirection is mandated to last for forty-two consecutive days.

This particular road section that requires attention is located between the Brookhouse and Galleria area and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa junction. The roadworks are essential for the construction of two large box culverts along this affected portion. Such structures are vital for improving drainage and ensuring the long-term structural resilience of this important route. These crucial construction activities are scheduled to commence on Monday, October 20, 2025. The work is projected to be fully completed and the road reopened by Monday, December 1, 2025.

KeNHA understands the potential for widespread congestion during this period and has carefully prepared alternative routes for motorists. The first recommended diversion directs traffic from Lang’ata Road onto Lang’ata South Road. From there, drivers should proceed to Kiboko Road, use Banda Lane, and finally rejoin Magadi Road. A second viable alternative also utilizes Lang’ata Road and Lang’ata South Road, followed by Kiboko Road. However, this option then uses Mukoma Road to link back to Magadi Road near the Shell Petrol Station. Motorists must adhere strictly to all project road signs and follow the established traffic diversion plan to ensure smooth transit.

In addition to the Bomas to Kiserian project, KeNHA is implementing a separate, major closure on the Thika Superhighway, known as the A2. This secondary disruption involves the temporary closure of the service lanes in the Kihunguro section of the superhighway. The service lanes are affected in both the Nairobi-bound and the Thika-bound directions simultaneously. This work is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 20, 2025, matching the start of the B19 closure. However, the anticipated completion date is Saturday, December 20, 2025, making this a longer, two-month undertaking.
This extensive closure is required to allow for the construction of the column bases and stub columns for the new Kihunguro footbridge. The footbridge is a much-anticipated project designed to address years of grave safety concerns for pedestrians at this heavily used crossing point.

The Authority has further appealed to all road users to exercise patience and maintain a high level of cooperation with the officials on the ground. Police officers and dedicated traffic marshals will be permanently stationed on site to manage the vehicle flow and guarantee maximum public safety throughout the work period. The successful management of the project and the minimized impact on commuters rely heavily on the public’s adherence to the temporary regulations. This short-term inconvenience is undeniably necessary to achieve lasting benefits for the entire community.
