The Kenya Urban Roads Authority has announced a partial closure of Outer Ring Road this Saturday. The restriction runs from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on 8 August 2026 to allow removal of a gantry.
According to the official advisory, the work will take place at a location shown in an attached sketch. Motorists should expect temporary disruption and plan alternative routes where possible. The agency apologised for any inconvenience.
The sketch shows the affected stretch of Outer Ring Road, also known as Outering Road. Nearby junctions include Thika Road, Juja Road, Jogoo Road, Manyanja Road and Airport North Road. Rivers such as the Mathari, Nairobi and Ngong appear on the map.
A work sequence accompanies the notice. Between 12:00 and 13:00 crews will position machinery while traffic continues under restricted speeds. From 13:00 to 14:00 the gantry will be removed and the section closed. Demobilisation is set for 14:00 to 15:00.

Photographs released with the advisory show the gantry itself. It carries signs for Exit 7 and route C59, directing traffic toward Mombasa Road, Thika Road A2, Nairobi CBD, Utawala and Donholm.
Outer Ring Road forms a key orbital link on Nairobi’s eastern side. It carries heavy volumes connecting residential estates, industrial areas and the airport corridor. Short closures of this type are common during maintenance managed by the authority.
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority handles development, rehabilitation and maintenance of national urban trunk roads. Its notices aim to give motorists advance warning so travel plans can be adjusted. This window falls on a Saturday afternoon when patterns differ from weekdays.

Residents and regular users of Outer Ring Road should treat the three-hour window as firm. Early departure or alternative routing via parallel corridors may reduce delays. Once the gantry is down, normal flow is expected to resume under restricted speeds.
The notice was issued on Thursday afternoon, giving motorists about two full days of advance information. Compliance with temporary controls will help keep the worksite safe for road users and the crews carrying out the removal.
