Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has sent a high-level delegation to represent the country at the world's largest geothermal gathering in Calgary, Canada.

The delegation is participating in the World Geothermal Congress (WGC) 2026, which took place from June 8th to June 11th.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Eng. Peter Njenga, is leading the state-backed power producer at the global conference.

The event comes at a time when international demand for reliable, sustainable power is intensifying.

KenGen is using the global stage to showcase Kenya's transition from local ambition to international leadership in renewable energy infrastructure.

The company's presentation focuses heavily on its extensive experience in the steam fields of Olkaria, which forms the backbone of Kenya's green grid.

Delegates at the conference are discussing how the future of clean energy relies on human collaboration, although advanced technology remains critical to field development.

The presence of the Kenyan utility highlights how long-term investments in subterranean steam can successfully clean up national electricity grids.

The International Geothermal Association and the Geothermal Association of Kenya (GAK) are among the key bodies participating in the policy and technical sessions.

KenGen officials noted that the congress remains focused on building international partnerships, sharing technical knowledge, and delivering cleaner growth for future generations.
