Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defence (MOD), Dr. Patrick Mariru, conducted a site inspection visit to the proposed Kidundu Stadium in Vihiga County to evaluate early construction progress and review ongoing preparation efforts.

Accompanied by Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, the inspection delegation toured the project site secured by the local county government. The joint assessment focused on reviewing early civil earthworks and establishing ground readiness for the sports facility development.

The project features a planned 10,000-seater capacity stadium structure intended to serve as a key sporting venue within the Western region.

Architectural and master planning guidelines indicate the development will integrate a standard football pitch, an eight-lane running track, dedicated VIP lounges, player changing rooms, spectator sanitation blocks, equipment storage facilities, and perimeter security fencing.

Supplementary engineering provisions incorporate a dedicated borehole system to support long-term site sustainability.

Execution of the project falls under a multi-agency framework involving the National Government and the County Government of Vihiga. Technical supervision and project management responsibilities are assigned to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) engineering units under the MOD.

This supervisory arrangement aims to enforce structural specifications, control quality standards, and streamline delivery schedules.

Before visiting the construction grounds, state officials convened at the Vihiga County Government headquarters for intergovernmental consultations.

Discussions centered on contractor mobilization, administrative coordination, and site handovers required to avoid delays during active construction phases.

The site visit follows earlier bilateral discussions held at Defence Headquarters between ministry leadership and county executive members regarding stadium development strategies.

Further details on concrete pours, structural steel installation timelines, and final completion dates will be determined as site operations advance.
