Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) collected eight top trophies during the Kisumu National Show, reflecting its expanded presence in regional shipping networks.
Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Ochieng Owili presented the awards during the agricultural fair at the Mamboleo Showground, where KPA displayed updates on key asset programs across Mombasa, Lamu, inland container depots, and Lake Victoria piers.
The agency took first place across several competitive display classes, including Viable Transport, Strategies for International Trade and Exports, Environment, Blue Economy, Show Theme Interpretation, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Community Service Initiatives, and Large Trade Stand.
It also earned second place in National Cohesion and Integration, Youth Activities, and Non-Agricultural Based Statutory Board.
The public display highlights operational gains at the Port of Kisumu, which has logged 144 vessel calls this year. Operational activity across Lake Victoria points to steady local demand for waterborne logistics links between neighbouring commercial centers.
Uganda remains the primary transit destination for goods clearing through the facility. Key export streams include petroleum, ceramic tiles, and mixed breakbulk, while specialized heavy equipment shipments have moved through the terminal toward Tanzanian industrial and civil construction sites.
Activity in June brought 21 vessel calls to the terminal, moving 42,359 metric tonnes of export freight. Cargo movements for the month featured refined fuel products, ceramic tiles, hot rolled coils, fertilizer, and machinery. Total export tonnage for June showed a 2,094 metric tonne increase over May figures.
