National and county officials resolve long-standing issues, clearing the way for builders to revive Mombasa's primary sports infrastructure project.

Construction work at the Mombasa County Stadium has officially restarted, following a prolonged period of stagnation that kept the regional sports facility frozen for more than 13 years.

The resumption follows recent high-level interventions between national and local leadership. Government officials stated that outstanding issues surrounding the project have now been unlocked, allowing contractors back onto the site.

Situated in the Tonoka area, the project is Mombasa's primary sports venue. Local residents reported seeing a delegation of county officials, including the governor, visiting the site to formally mark the reopening of the construction zone.

The development is being overseen by the Department of Youth, Gender and Sports Cultural Affairs (DYGSCA) under the County Government of Mombasa. New architectural renderings erected at the main entrance detail the proposed layout, which features a red, blue, and white color scheme.

Heavy machinery, including a crane tasked with lifting structural steel components, has been deployed to the site. Initial activity has focused on clearing overgrown vegetation that accumulated over the last decade, alongside setting up shipping containers to hold incoming building materials.

Work will focus on completing the concrete seating tiers, which are designed to wrap completely around the pitch perimeter. Portions of the existing steel framing built years ago show visible rust, which workers will need to treat as assembly progresses.

A temporary perimeter wall made of corrugated iron sheets has been built around the site boundaries. This temporary fence extends close to the main public road to maintain security and keep unapproved individuals out of the active building zone.

The project represents a joint focus by the national government and the local administration to restore the region's athletic infrastructure. Work is expected to proceed in phases, with the blue-painted spectator stands serving as the visual anchor for the revived facility.
