Nairobi County Assembly has allocated KSh 20 million in the 2026/27 budget. The funds are for the construction of a statue honouring the late Raila Odinga.
The statue will be erected at the Supreme Court roundabout in the Central Business District. This follows an amendment from the initial proposal at Uhuru Park.
The allocation forms part of the county’s development budget. It will finance the design, construction and installation of the monument.
MCAs described the project as a lasting tribute to Raila Odinga’s contribution to Kenya’s democratic reforms, constitutional development and national unity.

The county government is expected to provide further details on the implementation timeline and procurement process. The project will be part of planned development initiatives for the coming financial year.
This statue will add to iconic monuments in Nairobi. Existing ones include the Dedan Kimathi statue, Tom Mboya statue, and several others commemorating key historical figures and events.
The announcement comes shortly after the groundbreaking for the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi. That project is set for completion in October.
