The National Construction Authority has invited young professionals in the building sector to the second edition of its Youth-Contractor Empowerment Programme scheduled for Kisumu this Thursday.
The event, which is hosted at a time when local firms face tightening credit conditions, will focus on scaling up access to construction financing.
According to the Authority, the half-day conference will take place on May 7, 2026, starting at 7:30 AM. It includes a factory visit and a networking cocktail designed to bridge the gap between emerging contractors and established industry players.

Registration for the programme is mandatory and remains open until May 6, 2026. Interested participants are required to register through a provided QR code system before the deadline.
The Kisumu session will tackle several critical pillars of business sustainability, including:
* Labour mobility
* Market access
* Enterprise management
* Innovation in construction materials
* Enterprise structuring
* Record-keeping practices
These topics are specifically curated to support contractors in meeting the stringent requirements set by financial institutions and market regulators.
The Authority has confirmed that attendance is free. Registered contractors who participate in the full itinerary will also earn 10 Professional Continuous Development points, which are essential for the annual renewal of NCA practicing licenses.
The focus on enterprise structuring and record-keeping reflects a broader effort by the regulator to formalize youth-led businesses. Poor documentation is often cited by Kenyan lenders as a primary reason for the high rejection rates of construction loan applications.
By incorporating a factory visit into the schedule, the NCA aims to expose participants to modern innovation in construction materials. This hands-on approach is intended to help contractors identify cost-effective and sustainable building methods.
The event comes as President Rutoβs administration continues to emphasize the inclusion of youth and women in the national infrastructure agenda. Similar initiatives by the NCA have previously targeted the professionalization of the artisanal workforce across various counties.
Logistics for the day indicate an intensive eight-hour program, concluding at 3:00 PM. The Authority has not specified the venue for the networking cocktail, but it is expected to follow the formal conference and site tours.
For the Kisumu construction community, this programme represents a rare opportunity to engage directly with regulators regarding the practical barriers to market entry.
While the entry is free, the NCA has emphasized that the registration deadline is strict to allow for the coordination of the factory visit and logistics. Contractors are encouraged to secure their slots before the Wednesday cutoff.
