National government agencies have commenced a major infrastructure overhaul in Homa Bay Town, featuring the dualling of the Makongeni-Arujo highway and the upgrading of key urban link roads.

Homa Bay Town is currently the site of a significant road infrastructure transformation, led by a series of national government projects designed to modernize the urban landscape and improve traffic flow. The center of this development is the dualing of the Makongeni-Arujo highway, a project intended to expand capacity on one of the town's primary arterial routes.

According to Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, the works also include a 5-kilometer upgrade stretching from Junction Kodoyo to Got Rabuor. These projects are being implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) as part of a wider 10-kilometer urban road network. The initiative aims to strengthen connectivity within the town while easing the movement of goods and people across residential and commercial zones.

Construction crews are currently applying modern bitumen surfacing across various sections of the town. In addition to the primary highways, a substantial portion of the internal road network has already been tarmacked. This phase of the project is not limited to the driving surface; the designs incorporate well-lit streets and dedicated pedestrian lanes, which are becoming standard features in Kenya's evolving urban centers.

The rollout of these works has required close coordination between multiple government arms. The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has taken an active role in the project through field facilitation and stakeholder engagement. This oversight ensures that the construction remains integrated into the daily life of the town without compromising public safety or the progress of the contractors.

By addressing both the major highways and the smaller internal links, the project is expected to enhance the visual appeal of Homa Bay while providing the technical infrastructure necessary for a growing municipality. The focus on bitumen standards and pedestrian-friendly features reflects a shift toward more sustainable urban planning within the region.

As the 10-kilometer network nears completion, the emphasis remains on high-quality finishes and seamless integration into the existing town layout. The project forms a key pillar of the national government's commitment to urban renewal in Homa Bay, providing a template for similar infrastructure upgrades across the Lake Basin region.
