Nyandarua Hospital Medical Complex Progress Tracks Toward October Target

Construction of the new medical complex at JM Kariuki Memorial County Referral Hospital (JMKMCRH) in Nyandarua County has reached an overall completion rate of 72 per cent, with the project management under the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The development, which commenced in January 2026, is scheduled for completion by October 31, 2026. The target completion timeline was highlighted during a field project assessment visit conducted at the site located in Ol Kalou.

Principal Secretary for Defence Dr. Patrick Mariru, who led the fourth field project assessment team, confirmed that civil works are approximately 80 per cent complete. Finishing operations are currently active across various sections of the building.

Ongoing tasks at the site include tiling, electrical installations, and ceiling works. The project forms part of efforts to expand local health facilities, which will serve residents of Nyandarua County and surrounding regions.

Dr. Mariru was accompanied during the site inspection by Nyandarua County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health, Dr. Juliana Tsinanga. Senior military and administrative personnel were also present to review the ongoing construction status.

Other key officials in attendance included Chief of Special Projects at Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Titus Sokobe, and Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) for Nyandarua Central, Mr. Keneth Kiprop.

The involvement of the military in public works management has gained traction as a strategy for delivering specialized public facilities within strict timeframes.

By combining military engineering capabilities with civilian sector requirements, project managers aim to maintain high construction standards and operational discipline throughout execution.

Infrastructure development in regional medical facilities continues to receive attention across Kenya, where county governments partner with national ministries to upgrade existing health infrastructure.

The JM Kariuki facility is expected to improve specialized care availability once fully operationalized.

With structural works largely wrapped up, focus shifts toward completing internal fittings, services integration, and final handovers ahead of the October deadline. Site teams remain focused on maintaining execution pace for timely commissioning.
