Construction works have officially commenced at the Kabarnet University College site in Baringo County, following the deployment of earthmoving equipment and technical personnel to the location.
The project is designed to establish a constituent college of Moi University (MU), expanding tertiary educational infrastructure in the Rift Valley region.
Ground clearance and site preparation are currently being carried out by construction crews as part of the initial development phase.
Principal Secretary for Defence Dr Patrick Mariru visited the construction site to inspect early progress and review preliminary structural layouts.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is overseeing project execution through its construction and engineering capabilities, working in coordination with educational stakeholders.
The site layout includes academic blocks, administrative offices, and supporting utility facilities designed to accommodate undergraduate programmes.
Heavy machinery, including excavators and tipper trucks, has been mobilized to undertake mass excavation and foundational earthworks.
Local administration officials and project engineers accompanied the delegation during the site tour, where technical specifications and delivery timelines were discussed.
The development forms part of the national government programme to widen access to higher education across sub-counties.
Further structural phases, including concrete foundation pours and masonry works, are scheduled to follow upon completion of the current earthmoving operations.
