Bauchi Allocates N4.68 Billion to Construct Four Major Recreational Parks

The Bauchi State Government has initiated the construction and remodelling of four major recreational parks across Bauchi metropolis. Former President Goodluck Jonathan officially performed the groundbreaking ceremony during an official visit to the state capital.

The recreational project carries an estimated financial commitment of 4.68 billion Naira (KES 444 million) . State authorities confirmed that 70 percent of the total project value has already been released to contractors to ensure rapid execution.

The developmental scheme forms part of broader urban renewal and environmental sustainability initiatives being executed across the state. Governor Bala Mohammed stated that public parks are vital infrastructure required to enhance urban living standards and public health.

The selected project locations include Golden Jubilee Park, formerly known as Eagle Sino. Another site slated for development is General Hassan Usman Katsina Park, located within the urban center.

Work will also take place at Shehu Azare Park along Adamu Jumba Road. The fourth location is Suleiman Adamu Park, which is situated within the New Government Reserved Area (GRA).

Each facility is designed to incorporate modern landscaping, walkways, perimeter fencing, public seating, green spaces, and integrated lighting systems. Water fountains, children play areas, and commercial kiosks are also included in the architectural site layouts.

Contractors are working under a strict twelve month completion timeline established by the state ministry. Officials emphasized that quality control measures will be enforced across all four construction sites throughout the building period.

Speaking at the ceremony, Jonathan noted that public green spaces remain essential components of modern urban development. He urged local communities to protect the facilities from vandalism, although maintenance remains a permanent responsibility for state managers.

The state government created a new Directorate of Recreational and Parks Management (DRPM) under the Ministry of Housing and Environment. This specialized body will oversee long-term maintenance and daily operations across all developed sites.

Bauchi metropolis has recorded steady population growth and urban expansion in recent years. Increasing visitor numbers and regional commercial activity have generated higher demand for organized public recreation spaces within the municipal boundaries.

State officials indicated that Golden Jubilee Park will also serve as a landmark monument for the upcoming fiftieth anniversary celebration of Bauchi State. Preliminary site preparation work and survey activities have already commenced across the designated sites.

The environmental department expects the completed parks to improve local microclimates, while providing structured venues for community events. Surrounding commercial areas are also expected to experience increased foot traffic and local trade once operations begin.

The park initiatives were launched alongside the commissioning of eighteen completed township roads valued at 58 billion Naira. Together, these municipal projects represent a capital investment in regional infrastructure within northern Nigeria.

Civil engineers and architectural consultants assigned to the park projects have commenced full mobilization to site. The government reiterated its commitment to completing all four facilities within the stipulated financial and temporal frameworks.

Residents across the municipal areas have expressed optimism regarding the creation of designated public leisure centers. The state ministry assured the public that environmental impact assessments were completed prior to breaking ground.
