Nyoro commissions Mwai Kibaki Tuition Block at Kiharu Technical College

Kiharu Member of Parliament Hon. Ndindi Nyoro has officially commissioned the newly completed Mwai Kibaki Tuition Block at the Kiharu Technical and Vocational College. The facility, named in honor of Kenya’s third president, represents the latest structural addition to the institution located in Murang'a County.

The commissioning ceremony, held at the college grounds, was attended by local leaders and community members. The multi-storey tuition block is designed to increase the intake capacity of the college, which provides technical and vocational training to students across the region.

Construction of the unit was funded through a partnership involving the Kiharu National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF). The project aligns with the ongoing expansion of the college, which was first established to address the growing demand for technical skills in the labor market.

The tuition block features several lecture rooms and administrative spaces. It is part of a broader infrastructure master plan for the college, which has seen steady growth since it was handed over to the Ministry of Education. The facility aims to support the government’s shift toward competency-based education.

During the event, the MP noted that naming the building after the late Mwai Kibaki was a deliberate choice to recognize the former president’s contributions to the education sector. The block is now ready for immediate use by students enrolled in various technical programs.

Kiharu Technical and Vocational College offers a variety of courses, including electrical installation, building technology, and plumbing. The addition of the Kibaki block is expected to ease congestion in existing classrooms and provide a more modern learning environment for these practical disciplines.

The college has become a focal point for the Kiharu Masomo Bora program, an initiative that subsidizes costs for local learners. With the new tuition block operational, the institution is positioned to accommodate more students under this social support framework.

Infrastructure development at the site has been ongoing for several years. The completion of this specific block follows the earlier establishment of workshops and lecture halls that formed the college’s foundation.

The residents expressed optimism that the expanded facilities would provide more opportunities for youth to acquire artisan and technician certifications. The college continues to work under the State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training to standardize aerial and ground-level views of the newly commissioned Mwai Kibaki Tuition Block at Kiharu Technical and Vocational College, featuring blue roofing and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
