The Kenya National Highways Authority hosted Saudi Fund for Development officials to review progress on the Garissa-Mandera Road Project and accelerate delivery.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), led by Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli, hosted a high-level delegation from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) for a consultative meeting on the Garissa – Mandera Road Project.

Discussions focused on the implementation status, key milestones achieved so far, and measures being taken to accelerate delivery of this critical transport corridor.

Once completed, the road is expected to enhance regional connectivity, facilitate trade and socio-economic development, and improve access to essential services for communities across Northern Kenya.

The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between KeNHA and the Saudi Fund for Development in advancing sustainable infrastructure and supporting Kenya’s national development agenda.

The Garissa-Mandera Road forms part of efforts to open up Northern Kenya through improved trunk road networks. Such projects involve extensive civil works including earthworks, paving, drainage structures and bridges.

International financing partnerships like the one with the Saudi Fund help deliver large-scale road infrastructure that connects remote areas to markets and services.

KeNHA continues to engage development partners to ensure timely project execution. Regular consultative meetings help address implementation challenges and maintain momentum on priority corridors.

The Garissa-Mandera corridor is expected to boost cross-border trade and movement of goods and people. It supports broader regional integration goals within the East African Community and beyond.

Road construction projects of this scale require careful planning around environmental safeguards, community engagement and quality control standards to deliver lasting infrastructure.

The partnership with the Saudi Fund for Development reflects Kenya’s strategy of diversifying funding sources for transport infrastructure. It complements other ongoing road and corridor development initiatives across the country.
