President William Ruto inspected the 84km Kenol-Sagana-Marua road project, confirming a KSh4 billion investment for Nyeri County infrastructure and plans for a new dual carriageway extension to Chaka.

Construction of the 84km Kenol-Sagana-Marua road has entered its final stages, with the government focusing on the Marua Interchange to streamline regional transit. The project forms a critical link in the Trans-African Highway, designed to manage higher traffic volumes and improve safety standards for motorists traveling through the central region.

During an inspection of the works at the Marua Interchange on Monday, President William Ruto confirmed that the broader infrastructure plan for Nyeri County includes the upgrade of eight major roads during the current financial year. The state has committed KSh4 billion to these local projects to improve connectivity within the county.

The scope of work is set to expand beyond the existing 84km contract. Plans are now in place to build a dual carriageway from the Marua Interchange directly into Nyeri Town. This extension will further continue to the Chaka trading centre in Kieni Constituency, addressing long-standing requests from the local business community for better access to the main highway.

The completion of the Kenol-Sagana-Marua section is expected to facilitate smoother trade between Nyeri and neighboring counties. By eliminating current bottlenecks, the infrastructure aims to foster stronger regional integration and reduce the cost of moving goods along the Northern Corridor toward the Ethiopian border.
