The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) recently convened a stakeholder consultative meeting in Mlolongo to address critical operational and safety concerns within Corridor A. Led by the Director of Corridor A Management, Eng. Denis Odeck, the session brought together officials from the Machakos County Government to coordinate interventions on road safety, mobility, and environmental preservation along the busy national route.
A primary focus of the discussions involved the logistical planning for new infrastructure, specifically the installation of bus bays and the establishment of dedicated solid waste collection points. These measures are intended to organize public transport stopovers and manage the environmental impact of urban sprawl along the highway corridor. Participants also deliberated on the removal of stalled vehicles from service roads, which remains a persistent obstacle to the efficient flow of traffic in the area.
Safety for non-motorized users formed a significant part of the agenda. The meeting outlined plans to enhance pedestrian safety through the development of guarded walkways. By physically separating pedestrian traffic from high-speed motor vehicle lanes, the authority aims to reduce the frequency of accidents involving those on foot.
