The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has intensified its oversight of the A4 road corridor, with a high-level team visiting Samburu County to review ongoing works. Eng. Howard A. M’mayi, the Regional Director for the Upper Eastern Region, led the inspection of the Maralal – Baragoi – South Horr Road.

The visit specifically focused on the Suyani/Morijo – Baragoi section, a critical stretch of the A4 highway. This route serves as a primary artery for the region, connecting Maralal to the northern reaches of South Horr and beyond.

During the site visit, the director and his technical team assessed the quality of work and the pace of the contractor on the ground. The inspection comes at a time when the Authority is prioritizing the maintenance and upgrading of key links in the Upper Eastern circuit.

The Maralal – Baragoi – South Horr road has historically been a challenging corridor for motorists due to its rugged terrain. The current interventions aim to stabilize the road surface and ensure that transport between these major trading centers remains reliable throughout the year.

This specific section between Morijo and Baragoi is vital for local trade and the movement of supplies into the northern parts of Samburu County. Recent government efforts have focused on gravel and spot improvements to keep the A4 navigable while long-term paving plans are finalized.

Engineers on-site briefed the Regional Director on the technical hurdles encountered during the work, including the management of drainage and the sourcing of suitable materials. The A4 road eventually extends toward Loyangalani, making its upkeep essential for regional logistics.

KeNHA continues to monitor several projects within the Upper Eastern Region to ensure that contractors adhere to the specified timelines and engineering standards. The inspection by Eng. M’mayi underscores the Authority’s intent to maintain a hands-on approach to infrastructure delivery in rural and northern frontier areas.

The Maralal – Baragoi stretch is part of the larger road network that connects the highlands of Samburu to the Lake Turkana basin. Improving this section is expected to reduce travel times and lower vehicle maintenance costs for residents and commercial transporters in the area.
