KeRRA Addresses Public Concerns Over Ngong-Suswa Road Deterioration

The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) published a public notice on 9 July 2026 responding to questions about the Ngong-Suswa road.

KeRRA stated that the road is currently undergoing phased maintenance. The works aim to repair pavement distress and enhance overall safety for users.

According to the authority the Ngong-Suswa road has been open to traffic for eight years. The final section was completed as recently as December 2025.

The road was designed with axle load limits of up to 10 tonnes per axle. Higher loads reaching 50 tonnes have contributed to faster deterioration particularly on certain sections.

To manage this situation KeRRA has installed a virtual weighbridge along the Ngong-Suswa-Ewaso-Kedong corridor. This tool helps identify overloaded vehicles and supports enforcement of traffic regulations.

Some operators found non-compliant have faced arrests and charges. The authority continues working to strengthen the road for current traffic levels.

Public discussions have focused on practical aspects such as signage and awareness of weight restrictions. Many road users value the route as a useful connection in the region.

KeRRA appealed to drivers to observe load limits. This cooperation would help preserve the infrastructure for everyone’s benefit.

Roads like Ngong-Suswa play an important role in supporting local economies and daily movement. Proper maintenance combined with user compliance remains key to their performance.

The notice provides official details for those seeking more information. Enquiries can be sent to dg@kerra.go.ke.
