The ongoing construction of the Konza Technopolis Affordable Housing Project has shifted into its next major deployment, as workers commence early work on the second phase of the development.
Managed under the government-backed Boma Yangu Programme (BYP), the massive housing intervention is designed to meet the rising residential demands within one of Africa's premier purpose-built smart cities and technology hubs.
The initial phase of the development comprises 11 ground-plus-nine (G+9) residential blocks, which are structured to deliver 1,042 housing units.
These units include a mix of the statutory Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) residences and standard market-rate units, which are specifically tailored for technology professionals, students, and workers operating within Konza Technopolis.
Finishing works on the first phase are currently underway across the structures.
Site crews are handling interior and exterior tasks, including tiling, painting, and terrazzo installation.
Residents moving into the completed blocks will have access to modern utilities, including an independent borehole water supply, 24-hour backup power, and integrated Information and Communications Technology (ICT) connectivity.
The master plan integrates enhanced security measures, cabro-paved internal roads, managed green spaces, recreational areas, and dedicated commercial facilities built directly within selected residential blocks.
The active construction zone is providing employment and skill development for local communities, with more than 500 workers currently engaged on-site.
Youth and women from the immediate region form a significant portion of this active workforce, gaining valuable on-site construction experience, while contributing directly to the growth of the local economy.
Building on the progress of the initial phase, construction teams have moved onto the site of Phase II.
This second phase is scheduled to deliver an additional 2,000 housing units to the technopolis.
Unlike the standalone residential blocks of the first phase, Phase II will introduce vital supporting social infrastructure, including a primary school, a secondary school, and a fully equipped hospital.
The ultimate target for the entire Konza Affordable Housing master plan is the structural development of 10,000 housing units.
To support the successful delivery of the expansive urban layout, the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration continues to maintain an oversight presence.
The department is tasked with providing a secure and conducive environment, coordinating various government agencies, and facilitating stakeholder collaboration to ensure the timely implementation of the technopolis housing project.
