Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has announced completion of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road Junction Flyover. The project is now nearing commissioning.

The flyover features an 800-metre elevated dual carriageway. It separates through-traffic on Ngong Road from vehicles accessing Naivasha and King’ara roads. This separation eases conflicts where vehicles turning toward Karen, Dagoretti, or other side routes currently mix with the mainline flow.
Once commissioned, the flyover will cut travel times between Ngong Town and the Central Business District. It will improve traffic flow and reliability for both private vehicles and public transport services using the corridor. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) implemented the works.

Once operational, the structure is expected to ease congestion along one of Nairobi’s busiest corridors. Travel times between Ngong and the Central Business District should drop significantly. Connectivity to facilities, including the nearby Talanta Stadium, will improve ahead of AFCON 2027.
The development forms part of ongoing efforts to transform Nairobi into a modern, efficient capital. Junction improvements of this kind address long-standing bottlenecks in the city’s road network.

KURA has been at the forefront of several urban road projects in the capital. The Ngong Road flyover adds to a growing list of elevated structures aimed at better traffic flow.
No exact commissioning date has been given. Engineers and authorities will likely conduct final inspections and safety checks before opening the facility to traffic.
Residents along the corridor have waited years for meaningful relief from gridlock. The completion comes as a timely boost for daily commuters and businesses operating in the area.
The Ngong Road–Naivasha Road Junction Flyover employs a hybrid design featuring concrete piers supporting a 254-metre steel bridge section within the 800-metre elevated dual carriageway. This approach enabled faster erection of the long span while ensuring the structure can handle heavy urban traffic loads. The alignment carefully navigates the existing urban fabric with minimal property disruption.
The flyover project reflects continued investment in Nairobi’s infrastructure. Similar interventions elsewhere in the city are expected to follow as urban mobility demands grow.
