Kenyan entrepreneur Kevin Onyona expanded his multi-million dollar fine-dining footprint with the establishment of a Swahili Village restaurant branch in Newark, New Jersey. The restaurant chain, known for bringing East African hospitality and cuisine to the United States, represents a growing network of African culinary enterprises abroad.

The Newark outlet joins a portfolio of established locations across major American business hubs, including College Park, Beltsville, and Northwest Washington, District of Columbia (DC). Founded by Onyona in 2016, the Swahili Village brand has grown into an African cuisine network with an estimated business empire value of 3.5 million US dollars.

The expansion highlights the operational realities of running ethnic hospitality venues in foreign markets, where service teams often feature diverse international staff. Guests visiting the New Jersey establishment are frequently served by Brazilian or Mexican waiters, reflecting the multicultural labor dynamics supporting the business.
