A helicopter crashed at Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County on Wednesday morning, killing all seven people on board.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the accident involved a Eurocopter EC130 B4 registered 5Y-GYM. The aircraft was flying from Loisaba towards Ewasonyiro when it went down at approximately 0913 local time.
All seven occupants died. They have been named as pilot Josh Outran, Roger Duarte, Adam Navaty, Stephen Vasconquez, Henry Parra, Michael Contugi and Suian Suarez.
Samburu County Police Commander David Nkoroi confirmed that thick smoke was seen rising from the scene as response teams arrived. Eyewitnesses described a large plume of thick black smoke and intense flames shortly after the aircraft went down.
Residents raised the alarm, prompting the deployment of regional security forces and emergency medical teams.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said it is coordinating with relevant agencies and stakeholders. The Air Accident Investigation Department under the Ministry of Roads and Transport is leading the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
A police report separately indicated the light aircraft, known as Lady Lorry, had been flying from Soyian in Laikipia towards Loisaba Conservancy before the crash.
No further details on the cause of the accident were immediately available.
