President William Ruto has allocated two acres of government land in Upper Hill, Nairobi. The land is valued at approximately KSh1 billion.
The allocation is for the construction of a permanent headquarters for the African Trade & Investment Development Insurance (ATIDI). ATIDI is Africa’s leading multilateral trade and investment insurer.
The allocation forms part of a broader reorganisation of land at the former Capitol Hill Police Station site. Two acres have also been set aside for a proposed Financial Sector Regulators’ headquarters.
One acre has been handed to St. John Ambulance Kenya for its relocation project.
ATIDI was established in 2001. It has backed close to USD 93 billion in cross-border trade and investment.
The institution currently operates from leased space at Kenya Re Towers in Upper Hill. The new headquarters will cement Nairobi’s position as a host city for multilateral bodies.
The land traces back to the de-gazettement of the Capitol Hill Police Station. This process required legal guidance from the Attorney General.
Senate has been reviewing the broader land deal. High-value institutional land transfers now face layers of scrutiny.
Upper Hill is transforming into Nairobi’s premier business and institutional district. The ATIDI allocation adds another anchor tenant to the neighbourhood.
For Nairobi’s built environment sector, such allocations signal future construction activity. Design, contracting and fit-out work will follow.
