UN Human Rights Blasts Paraguayan Senator Over Racist Comments Against Kylian Mbappe

The United Nations Human Rights (UNHR) office has strongly condemned racist and dehumanising remarks directed at French football captain Kylian Mbappe by Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla. The international body described the comments as despicable, noting that such incidents are regrettably not isolated within the global sporting community.

The controversy arose following public statements made by Amarilla on digital channels. The UN body intervened directly to address the escalating issue, highlighting a wider phenomenon of discrimination across international sports, although the initial comments have sparked widespread public outrage.

The federation confirmed its ongoing commitment to reporting such matters formally to public prosecutors, with the objective of initiating legal proceedings against individuals spreading hatred online.

Political figures in France have also consistently expressed their solidarity with national team players facing targeted harassment. The government has reiterated that football stars should not have to tolerate xenophobic abuse, if institutional mechanisms can be deployed to protect them from digital harassment.

The sports world has faced mounting pressure to clean up its stadiums and online spaces. Activists note that despite high-profile anti-racism campaigns, black players continue to bear the brunt of coordinated abuse during major international tournaments and domestic league matches.
