The University of Nairobi (UoN) is celebrating the promotion of one of its lecturers to full professor of Pure Mathematics. Prof Stephen Luketero Wanyonyi has attained the prestigious academic rank after years of dedicated service.
Luketero began his academic journey at the University of Nairobi, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a Statistics major between 1990 and 1994. He later completed a Master of Science in Pure Mathematics and an MBA in Finance.
His research interests span network analysis, integer programming, game theory, queuing theory, transportation models, derivatives markets and investment management. This breadth allows him to contribute to both theoretical mathematics and practical business applications.
The professor has taught a wide range of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These include actuarial mathematics, financial management, operations research and business statistical methods.
Luketero has supervised numerous postgraduate students. Many of his mentees have completed research projects in education, finance, agriculture, organisational management and mathematics.
He has held various leadership roles within the School of Mathematics. These include coordinator of Module II programmes, member of the Examinations Committee and chairman of the Studentsβ Welfare Committee.
Beyond teaching and research, Luketero has developed e-learning modules in Calculus and Advanced Calculus. These efforts have made mathematical education more accessible to distance learners.
The university community has praised his contributions to academic excellence and student development. Colleagues and alumni have joined in celebrating the milestone promotion.
Luketeroβs achievement highlights the strength of mathematics education at Kenyan universities. It also serves as inspiration for younger academics pursuing careers in pure and applied mathematics.
