ISM Engineering, operating as part of the ISM Africa Group, recently announced the release of its new circular modular units. The Nairobi firm, active in manufacturing, renewable energy, trading and project services, developed the rounded modules to meet demand for adaptable and environmentally conscious building options in African markets.
The circular design sets these units apart from the more common rectangular modular formats, giving them a contemporary appearance while maintaining practical flexibility. Developers can configure them for residential homes, studio apartments, corporate offices, retail spaces or hospitality facilities.
The approach relies on off-site production in controlled factory settings, which helps limit waste generation, reduce activity and disturbance at construction sites, and deliver improved energy performance during the building's operational life. ISM positions this as an extension of its established modular work.
Previous efforts showcasing the company's excellence include the Zaria Court development in Kigali, Rwanda, where the company repurposed 35 shipping containers into a multi-storey retail and entertainment complex. The firm also employs its Tetris technology for rapid assembly of homes and other structures in the region.
