Young Kenyan real estate entrepreneur Mohamed Bishar has officially launched construction of the KSh 2 billion Silva Gigiri project. The luxury residential complex is located in Gigiri, one of Nairobi’s premier diplomatic and residential neighbourhoods.

The development will comprise 182 units and is pursuing Gold LEED certification from the US Green Building Council. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It is a globally recognised rating system that evaluates buildings on sustainability, energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality and material selection. Achieving Gold level is a notable accomplishment in East Africa.

Bishar said the project was conceived just three to four months before groundbreaking. He expressed optimism that the team could complete it ahead of the planned 30 to 36 month timeline.

The project has secured backing from Gulf Hotels Group, a leading Middle East hospitality operator with presence in over 70 countries. Bishar described the partnership as validation of the project’s international standards and quality.

Silva Gigiri is being positioned as more than a commercial venture. Bishar highlighted its role in creating thousands of jobs for young Kenyans and changing perceptions about the capabilities of local developers. He linked the project to Kenya’s Vision 2030 development agenda and support for international organisations in the area.

Gigiri’s strategic location near diplomatic missions, the United Nations complex and business hubs makes it attractive for high-end residential developments. The project is expected to appeal to expatriates, affluent locals and investors seeking premium, sustainable living spaces.

The launch underscores growing participation by young Kenyan entrepreneurs in the real estate sector. It also adds to the supply of quality housing in Nairobi amid rising demand for modern accommodation.

Successful delivery of Silva Gigiri, particularly with LEED Gold certification, could set a new benchmark for sustainable luxury developments in Kenya and the wider region.
