The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a formal traffic advisory for motorists using the NakuruβEldoret highway, following a road accident in the Sachangwan area of Molo.
In a statement released on Saturday, April 25, authorities confirmed that the diversion was necessary to manage the flow of vehicles after a lorry was involved in an incident on the busy stretch.
The Sachangwan area, located within Molo, is a well-known transit point on the Northern Corridor, which facilitates the movement of goods between the Port of Mombasa and several landlocked countries in East Africa.
Due to the blockage, police have directed drivers to seek alternative routes to avoid the expected buildup of traffic. This specific section of the highway often experiences high volumes of heavy-duty trucks and public service vehicles.
The NPS has not yet confirmed the cause of the lorry accident or provided details on any potential casualties. Officers have been deployed to the site to coordinate the recovery of the vehicle and restore normal traffic flow.
Motorists traveling toward Eldoret or Nakuru are urged to exercise caution and follow the instructions provided by traffic marshals on the ground. Delays are expected to persist until the scene is fully cleared.
The NakuruβEldoret highway is a critical piece of infrastructure for Kenya's transport sector, though certain sections, including Sachangwan, have historically required constant monitoring due to their terrain and high accident rates.
Local residents and regular commuters have been advised to stay updated through official police communication channels as the situation develops.
Construction and maintenance of this corridor remain a priority for the government, as it serves as the primary artery for regional trade and passenger transport in the Rift Valley region.
Recovery teams are currently working to move the lorry, which will allow for the reopening of all lanes. Until then, the diversion remains in effect for all categories of vehicles.
